How to import MTS and M2TS AVCHD files to Final Cut Express for editing

Image

Since Nov. 2007, Final Cut Express 4 has added plug-and-play supports to AVCHD format. However, because of its not cheap cost, some Mac users have not upgraded to the newest FCE 4, but still in use of the former version. As the popularity of AVCHD camcorders, more and more people have become owners of such a kind of camcorder, at the same time, the problem emerged that the old version FCE can not recognize MTS and M2TS files shot by AVCHD camcorder. What is the affordable and effective way to solve this issue? You may ask, and my answer will be “Pavtube MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac” without doubt. Because it can convert MTS and M2TS AVCHD files to Final Cur Express workable format without any audio and video out of sync issues. Following is its detailed user guide, if you are in such a condition, you can read on it freely.

1. Add MTS and M2TS AVCHD files to this program

Once launched this program, the following friendly blue-sky interface will pop up, on which you can click “Add” button to load MTS and M2TS files.

2. Select FCE compatible format as output format and set save path

Click the drop-down list of “Format” to select FCE compatible format as output format, here I choose MOV for example. Click “Browse” button to specify where to store the output files. Moreover, if you have the need of joining multiple MTS and M2TS to be as a single file, you are able to achieve this goal via ticking the checkbox “Merge into one file”.

3. Set advanced settings

Click “Settings” button, then you will see the following interface, on which you are allowed to adjust audio and video parameters like codec name, bit rate, aspect ratio, frame rate, and audio channel. In principle, the larger input values, the larger file size, but accompanying with the better file quality; the smaller input value, the smaller file size, but in accordance with the more inferior file quality. That is to say, if you want to do advance settings, you’d better make a balance between the file size and file quality.

4. Start converting MTS and M2TS files to FCE format

Once all the above settings are finished, you can click “Convert” button to start converting MTS and M2TS AVCHD files into FCE supported format. The interface below will present you clearly about conversion progress, time elapse, left time, generated file size, and estimated file size. After conversion is done, you can easily find out the output files for FCE via clicking “Open” button.

Well, finished, what you should do next is just adding the output files generated from MTS and M2TS AVCHD files to Final Cut Express for editing.

How to convert AVCHD/MTS, M2TS files for edit in Adobe Premiere Pro?

Have you ever shot some footages for making a short film, only to find the Adobe Premiere prefer not to edit M2TS files natively? One of my friends, who had been trying to make a film, encountered such problem when he shot HD video with his new JVC GZ-H900. I believe AVCHD camcorders usually record HD video as MTS file, which will be M2TS when transferred to PC, while video editing applications such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Sony Vegas, refuse to edit the M2TS files. So the best bet is to convert the AVCHD (M2TS file) to a format that Premier will support and then proceed from there. Now, which conversion program works well and doesn't lose much quality of the video? I recommend Pavtube MTS/ M2TS Converter for the following advanced features:

  • Versatile output formats including MOV (AVC), WMV (VC-1), MPEG-2 and DV AVI
  • Works well and with fast converting speed
  • Convert with lossless quality when apply correct settings
  • Advanced parameters (Bitrates, Frame rates, Size etc) adjustable
  • 5.1 Channels available (MOV)

Here is an easy guide to brief the converting flow. The MTS/ M2TS Converter can convert files in batch so you may import all that you would like to convert.
Image

  1. Install Pavtube MTS/ M2TS Converter
  2. Run the converter, and click Add to load the M2TS files.
  3. Specify output format and folder. Click on the Format bar and find Adobe Premiere/ Sony Vegas, then choose a format from the list.
  4. Click Convert to start. You may observe the converting progress from a popup panel.

Interlaced M2TS video may display aliasing distortion and combing effect. In that case you can activate Deinterlacing function by stepping through Edit-> Effect-> Deinterlacing. (Tip: To set advanced video and audio parameter, please click the Settings button.)

the software is working wonderfully actually!! It truly saved me! I had just bought a HD camera a few weeks ago and found out soon after that the program that I was hoping to use to edit the footage, Final Cut Pro 7, didn't work on my lowly macbook because I didn't have enough VRAM! But then I found your software online (i think it was on Bing) and did the trial, loved it, and decided to buy it. And I've been converting footage ever since! Its great!

I did like the software, very easy to use with my Mac book pro. I own a media company and a lot of the time we get MTS files (which I hate because they are not recognized by any of Apples editing software, FCE, FCP, and imovie). Your product was reasonably priced and easy to use. I found your product by Googling MTS Conversion software. Yours came up 5th but I could see it was an easy software to use. I enjoyed the watermarked trial software and that's what sold me. As a Macintosh lover and user I appreciate Pavtube and would recommend it to my colleagues, the software would be greatly appreciated!!

I tried several other products, including TOP, Xilisoft, DVDfab, and some others. Pavtube worked out to be the best fit of what I was looking for.
