The world is going digital, and so is entertainment. However, you still
probably have a stash of old VHS tapes that you want to watch
occasionally, and lament that they are not on DVDs instead, what with
the tapes wearing out, getting stuck in the player, all the
rewinding and forwarding to do… Watching DVDs is
so much simpler and better.
Besides the
inconvenience that the tapes entail, they have become completely
obsolete, too. You would not find any movies or television shows from
the last decade having been released on tapes. It is surely time to go
digital, move to DVDs.
Well, movie
DVDs are available in the market – you can buy them, or rent
them. But what about your favorite television shows? Even though a few
of the most popular shows now release DVDs of their older seasons, but
most of them still do not.
In order to
digitize your television programming, you need to first connect your
cable TV to your computer. For this, you might need to install a TV
Tuner card first, in case your system does not have it already. That is
fairly easy to do – you can order a device online, and just
plug it in. Then, you can watch television on your computer, and also
record the shows onto your computer. Once you have your favorite shows
recorded on your hard disk, it is fairly easy to make DVDs of it. Even
if you do not know how to burn a DVD, you can easily learn.
However,
before you start burning those disks, you need to ensure that you do
not violate any copyrights or intellectual property rights by doing so.
Many shows are copyright protected, and no matter if you use some
hacker software, you could still be prosecuted for the violation. You
must always check to see if the show you are about to burn on DVD
allows you to do it.
Once you
start recording your favorite television shows on DVDs, life would be
so much better! One DVD can typically hold about three hours of
television programming, on high-quality recording. So, you can actually
put several episodes on one DVD.
This allows you to carry your favorite programming anywhere, and watch
it on any computer or DVD player. You could make a few DVDs of your
kid’s favorite cartoons, and play them in your car, or maybe
attach a portable DVD player in case your car does not have one. You
would have peaceful drives, without junior asking you time and again
– “Are we there yet?”
DVDs are also easy to store and maintain. They take up very little
space, and require hardly any special arrangement. The DVD format is
also not in danger of becoming obsolete soon. So, you can store all
your favorite shows – complete seasons, even – so
long as you ensure that you do not violate any copyrights.
Happy viewing!
