I have a stack of VHS movies in my house. Although they are rarely watched, some are classics that I do not want to lose when my VHS player bites the dust. Today, consumers cannot purchase a new player because everything has switched to DVD or Bluetooth discs. Someday, no matter how careful I am, I will not have any recourse to play all those movies stored in my entertainment center. I need a means for VHS copy to DVD.

Unfortunately, the difference between the VHS and DVD is comparable to a Chinese individual trying to communicate with another person who only speaks English; or the difference between telling time with a face clock or the digital type. One does not sound like the other or work the same.

Likewise, it is impossible to copy VHS data to a DVD and have the information understood. Instead, if it works at all, it comes out as garbage. One device cannot understand the other. In essence, a translator is needed. So, is it possible to save the treasured VHS tapes?

Yes. However, special equipment is required. First, users will need a converter. As the VHS tape is played, the device is plugged into the outlets used for video games, camcorders, etc. Then, on the other end of the converter are the same hookups to fit into the computer. As the VHS is played, the video is placed on the computer’s hard drive in digital language.

Once on the computer, a person can sift through the data and get rid of the advertisements and other unnecessary information. After cleaning up the files, it is time to implement shrinking software that will once again compress the video to fit on a single DVD again.

When the material is finally ready, it is time to put a blank DVD in the computer’s RW drive and finally accomplish VHS copy to DVD. Yes. It is very possible to convert VHS data to be read by a DVD device. But it takes some specially designed hardware and software to accomplish the task. However, if like me, you have a stack of wonderful movies worthy of saving, it will be time and resources well spent.
